Becoming a registered nurse is on the minds of a lot of folks right now. It is not uncommon to hear on the news about nursing shortages and that nurses can make a really good living. So you may be wonder how you go about becoming an RN, right? There are different ways actually and which one would be better for you will depend on your current situation and your goals.
First of if you have no college then you have a couple of different options. Each one depends on your long terms goals and how quickly you would like to enter the work force as a registered nurse. If you would like to become a registered nurse as quick as possible and have no plans or interests in ever working in a management position, then an associates degree from a community college or university may be all you need to complete. Another option is a diploma program such as from a hospital that may allow you to earn you RN license. If you decide to go this route and then someday do change your mind you could always return to school to complete an rn to bsn degree at some point in your career.
Another option is if you current hold a bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to become an RN. Some nursing programs from universities could allow you to finish the degree faster then other types of programs. Due to the nursing shortage many people who wish to change careers are searching for different options of entering the healthcare field and this is one of them.
Whatever option you choose one type of program you may wish to consider are the different online nursing programs available from some universities. These may or may not be applicable to you and your current situation. The easiest way to find out is to contact some schools to learn more about their program. One of the more common ones is an RN-BSN offered by some institutions.
